How to Avoid Becoming a Skin Care Junkie

07 Septembre 2014

The age-old wisdom of “less is more” applies to a variety of situations in life, including skincare. Piling on tons and tons of products can cause breakouts, make certain ingredients in the products ineffective and make a large dent in your back account. Here are a few ways to avoid becoming a skin care product junkie.

  • Choose multi-use products. Instead of using a foundation and a spot treatment for acne separately, look for foundations that include ingredients found in the acne spot treatments. Many brands have created foundations with this anti-breakout technology. Doing so will cut your skincare product collection in half.
  • Choose products that actually work. Instead of always buying the cheapest deal you can find (which you end up not enjoying and throwing away after a few uses), invest and spend the extra money on a product that really works. For example, Shinso Essence has multiple penetrating ingredients not found in many drugstore products, which makes it really stand out and work extra hard.
  • Try samples. Instead of buying every product that you think you may like, try to get a free sample beforehand. If the sample (or trial-size product) has enough product for a few days, you should be able to get a good idea if it works and how you like it. Most department beauty stores give samples gladly- so just ask!
  • Clean out your products monthly. Every month, take a few minutes to go through your medicine cabinets or drawers and get rid of expired or rarely-used products to keep them from piling up.
